Overview of True BASIC
----------------------
True BASIC, designed by John Kemeny and Tom Kurtz, the authors of the
original BASIC, is an extremely powerful, yet easily learned,
structured programming language that offers increased speed,
extraordinary graphics and great functional flexibility to programmers
of all levels.
The True BASIC Development Package for X Windows consists of the
platform-independent True BASIC Language System, toolkits for advanced,
graphics-oriented scientific functions, on-line manual pages, built-in
matrix operations, dynamic, resizable arrays, local and global
variables, resursion, PostScript (TM) output, structured error handling,
modules and pictures for encapsulating data, user-defined coordinate
systems, mouse and keyboard interfaces, image processing functions,
animation tools, colormap controls, font manager support, the ability
to integrate C routines and shell commands into BASIC programs along
with the option to create compiled or stand-alone executables.
The True BASIC Development Package allows the user to create programs
which take advantage of the powerful graphics of X Windows without the
complexity normally associated with colormap- based, event-driven window
systems. At the same time, functions are provided to support X-specific
features such as shared and dynamic colors, bitmap files, and the fonts.
Versions of True BASIC exist for Kanji and German. Numerous books on
subjects ranging from programming techniques to engineering applications
are available through True BASIC at:
